Mary Turner Photography
Mary Turner is a news and documentary photographer from the UK.
After beginning my career in press photography I became committed to telling the stories behind the news which led to my first major documentary project, the story of the Dale Farm Traveller community which I am continuing to work on today. This experience, building the trust and understanding that is so important to communication forms the core of my work on issue of survival among marginalisation.
My work has been recognised internationally by bodies including the Philip Jones Griffiths Award, Amnesty International Media Award, the Sony World Photography Awards, China International Photo Contest, UK Picture Editors Guild and the Magenta Foundation, the Marilyn Stafford FotoDocument Award, the Photographic Museum of Humanity and the World Report Award for Documenting Humanity in the Festival della Fotografia.
Publications and clients include The New York Times, The Sunday Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Telegraph, The Telegraph Magazine, The Guardian, The Australian, Huck Magazine, LensBlog, Gazeta Wyborcza, Le Monde and many more. I speak English, French and get by quite well in Arabic.
